SPAR Fitlive set for take-off in Cork

Karl Henry, Derval O’Rourke And Irish Olympian Mick Clohisey bring the  SPAR Fitlive Run Series to Cork Airport.

FitLive.ie, Ireland’s fitness hub, is bringing its Run Series to Cork with the Cork Airport Midnight Runway Run. Event partners Derval O’Rourke, Karl Henry and Irish Olympian Mick Clohisey are calling on those looking for a unique and different running experience to join them as they take to the Cork runway for a 5km midnight run, the second leg of the SPAR Fitlive series.

Taking place at midnight on Friday, 17th November, Cork Airport has closed operations for one night only giving runners the opportunity to take on the flat, fast Cork Airport runway under the stars at night – a once in a lifetime opportunity you won’t want to miss.

Speaking about the SPAR Fitlive Run Series, Colin Donnelly, SPAR Sales Director said, “We are delighted to be bringing the second leg of our Run Series to Cork following our launch run in Dublin’s Phoenix Park earlier this year. We had a great response to our free 8-week fitness programme that ran on Fitlive.ie and with the Irish Independent giving people exercise tips, nutritional advice, workouts and running plans created by Karl Henry. Health and wellbeing is a big focus for SPAR as we are constantly looking at ways to promote a healthy lifestyle in the home and community so we are very excited to have this opportunity for the people in the Cork region to get involved and to put what they learned with the SPAR Fitlive Programme to the test with our 5km Cork Airport Midnight Runway Run.”

Fitness Expert and TV Broadcaster, Karl Henry said: “Coming into winter it can be hard to motivate yourself to get out there and get running so having such an incredibly unique experience like running the Cork Airport runway at night is the perfect way to get you up off the couch and away from the pub on a Friday night. With just four weeks to go to the big day it’s also a goal to work towards which is important so get the runners on and get out there.”

Former Olympian and World Champion, Derval O’Rourke said: The SPAR Fitlive Cork Airport Midnight Runway Run is the perfect run for those who want to improve their fitness levels, attempt to beat a personal best or to simply attempt their first ever 5km run. With such a straight flat route, it lends itself to all levels of runners.”

Those interested in a registering for a running experience you’ll never forget can do so at https://events.fitlive.ie/spar-fitlive-run-series-cork-runway-run with an entry fee of €25 or €22 for groups of three or more. Participants will receive a goodie bag with a T-shirt, medal, refreshments, race chip timing and crossing line video.
