Irish shoppers can start the New Year as they mean to go on, following a makeover of the humble porridge breakfast into Radical Oats – a snack containing the superfood oats and low-fat probiotic yogurt – which hits SPAR shelves nationwide from today. The brand new Irish product was developed by aspiring Irish food business, The Radical Food Company, who won the opportunity to get their product listed with SPAR after entering a nationwide competition.
The Radical Food Company is headed up by husband and wife team, Miriam Cox-Monahan and Tony Monahan, who wanted to develop a tasty product that would appeal to their four hungry kids, Tabitha, Ayesha, Zuleika & Kai. With a team of critics at the ready, it wasn’t long before they turned ordinary oats into Radical Oats, using all natural Irish ingredients to create a delicious product with at least half the calories of most regular cereals and pastries.
Miriam for The Radical Food Company said, “Anyone who has growing children knows they are always hungry so we decided to attempt creating a product which tasted good – so they’d actually eat it – and healthy so as to give them the energy needed to sustain them through school, work and their hectic activity schedules. We’re very excited to have this opportunity to sell our product through SPAR and hope people make it a new year’s resolution to get radical with oats!”
Simon Marriott, Trading Director for SPAR Ireland said: “There couldn’t be a better time of year to launch a new product which is healthy and tasty and importantly made by an Irish company, with Irish ingredients. This is exactly the type of product our customers are after and we expect it to sell well in our SPAR stores across the country.”
Late last year, The Radical Food Company entered a nationwide competition to find Ireland’s best new food producer and win the opportunity to sell their products in SPAR stores across the country. The Dublin-based company beat off stiff competition with their Radical Oats – a chilled product made only with Irish oats, milk, cream and yogurt. Designed to be eaten for breakfast or as a snack it retails at €1.69 and comes in Original, Strawberry and Raspberry flavours.
Customer tasting sessions are taking place with the Radical Food Company at SPAR stores this week. Check www.SPAR.ie for details. For more information on the Radical Food Company visit www.theradicalfoodco.com.
