Local retailers, Pat and Marie McClafferty of EUROSPAR Gortahork are set to appear as extras on Ireland’s much loved TV soap Fair City, after winning the opportunity to star in the show at the national EUROSPAR and SPAR Retail Convention.
Tom Hopkins, who plays the role of Christy Phelan, owner of SPAR Carrigstown, was in attendance at the convention where he made the announcement that Pat and Marie had been selected to assume a walk-on part for an episode which goes to air on 4th April.
Speaking about their forthcoming acting debuts, Pat McClafferty said: “We’re delighted and excited to be appearing in Fair City, flying the flag for both Donegal and EUROSPAR.
Our Gortahork store boasts some of the very same features as SPAR ‘Carrigstown’, such as our Tim Hortons Coffee offering, so I might just share some of my insider tips with Christy.” To celebrate the appearance customers visiting EUROSPAR Gortahork on Thursday 4th April and Friday 5th April can enjoy a free Tim Hortons Coffee or Tea.
In 2011, BWG Foods, owners and operators of the SPAR and EUROSPAR brands in Ireland, launched a partnership with RTÉ Television following an agreement to open a SPAR store on the set of Ireland’s most popular home-grown soap Fair City. The partnership formed part of a significant long-term marketing investment by the retailing brand, transforming the corner-shop into a state-of-the-art SPAR store.
EUROSPAR Gortahork opened its doors to the local community in October 2012 with a special appearance from Donegal’s All-Ireland winning brothers, Eamon and Neil McGee. Along with the Tim Hortons coffee shop, the supermarket also includes a delicious bakery – Baker’s Tray, a full Butchery counter, full off-licence, and an in-store sit down area.
EUROSPAR Gortahork offers an extensive selection of the great value own brand range. The McClafferty’s provide employment for 50 staff locally and EUROSPAR Gortahork is open Monday – Friday 8am – 9pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am – 8pm.
