Leading retail group also named as Logistics Company of the Year
BWG Group, one of Ireland’s leading wholesalers and the market leader in the convenience sector, has claimed the prestigious Overall Logistics & Transport Excellence Award at the 2018 Irish Logistics & Transport Awards in the Citywest Hotel, Dublin.
The Group, which was shortlisted for a record seven honours in total making it the only wholesale and retail group in the country to be nominated this year, was also named as Logistics Company of the Year.
BWG Group’s entire logistics operation is managed through its National Distribution Centre which supplies over 1,040 SPAR, EUROSPAR, Londis, MACE and XL stores, along with 20 Value Centre wholesale branches.
Commenting on the award wins, Joanne Mellon, Logistics Director for BWG Foods said, “We in BWG are delighted to have received these awards on the back of the busiest year yet for our National Distribution Centre. Our extended team have been working tirelessly towards this level of excellence for a number of years now, and this recognition proves that we have created a logistics network that is up there with the best in the world. It’s something that we’re very proud of, but also focussed developing further through continued investment as we look to drive increased efficiencies throughout our nationwide supply of grocery goods.”
BWG’s state-of-the-art 240,000 sq. ft. distribution centre is located in Dublin’s Kilcarbery Business Park and incorporates the Group’s entire ambient, chilled distribution, including the company’s bonded warehouse, making it one of the biggest facilities of its kind in the country.
The sophisticated distribution centre employs nearly 300 people who are responsible for the handling 46 million cases through the facility each year, and the completion of approximately 800 regional deliveries on a daily basis.
